Community Membership
A Territory-wide ecosystem where First Nations entrepreneurs, remote communities, and partners connect, collaborate, and drive meaningful impact through business.
When you join our Impact North Community, you become part of a national movement.
Through our alignment with Social Enterprise Australia, your Impact North Community membership automatically grants you access to the national peak body and connects you with networks across Australia.
The Impact North Community is a dynamic ecosystem fostering two-way connections between social entrepreneurs and key partners to amplify their impact. Through our Community, First Nations entrepreneurs, remote communities, funders, and sector allies build stronger relationships and work together to bring about new forms of opportunity.
Why We're Doing This
The remote Indigenous businesses we support create significant social and economic impact, making them a natural fit for the social enterprise movement. Like social enterprises, these businesses place people and planet at the heart of their operations, using enterprise as a tool for self-determination, resilience, and transformation.
This alignment connects local solutions to national and global conversations—while staying grounded in what matters most: community-led change. We amplify the voices of remote First Nations and social enterprise leaders to improve conditions for grassroots entrepreneurs.

What is Social Enterprise?
Social enterprises are businesses with heart. They put People & Planet First, creating positive change through their commercial activities. Operating under any legal structure, social enterprises prove that you can drive meaningful impact while turning a profit.
Our social enterprise members are tackling critical social and environmental challenges across the Northern Territory. They demonstrate that purpose and profit can go hand-in-hand to create lasting change.
Five Keys to Social Enterprise Success
- Purpose-Driven: Each social enterprise exists to solve specific social or environmental problems.
- Values-Led Operations: Decision-making prioritises impact over maximising profit.
- Sustainable Business Model: Revenue is generated through trade to support long-term viability.
- Impact-Focused Finance: The majority of profits are reinvested to advance their mission.
- Mission-Protected Structure: Legal and financial frameworks safeguard their purpose into the future.
When you join the Impact North Community, verification through People & Planet First is included with your membership. FAQs
Find answers to common questions about our community membership, benefits, verification process, and how to get involved.
How does Impact North Community address the unique challenges of running a social enterprise in the Northern Territory?
The Impact North Community is specifically designed for the NT context, recognising challenges like geographic isolation, limited infrastructure, and seasonal weather impacts. We provide Territory-specific resources, connections to local and national networks, and opportunities that account for the unique operating environment across urban, regional and remote NT areas. Our Community brings together socially conscious businesses to connect, collaborate, and create lasting social change throughout the Territory.
How does the Impact North Community support Indigenous-led businesses and Indigenous leaders?
Supporting remote Indigenous businesses and leaders remains our top priority at Impact North. We deliver culturally appropriate, Indigenous-led support tailored to the unique needs of First Nations entrepreneurs across the NT. Our programs are designed with a deep understanding that these businesses create significant social and economic impact in their communities. We continue to offer specialised support through our On-Country delivery model, which respects and integrates cultural practices while building sustainable pathways to self-determination.
How does membership help businesses operating in remote NT communities?
For remote NT businesses, membership provides vital connections to urban markets and peer learning opportunities with other remote enterprises. We understand the additional costs and logistical challenges of operating in remote areas and structure our support accordingly.
Are there in-person events and networking opportunities in the NT?
Yes! We host regular in-person events across Darwin, Nhulunbuy/Yirrkala and other remote locations. These include our “Give and Get” networking events, where members can share what they can offer and what they need from other members. Members also receive access to meeting spaces in our Nightcliff and Parap offices for their own gatherings.
How does Impact North Community connect NT social enterprises to the broader Australian market?
Through our partnership with Social Enterprise Australia, NT members gain automatic connection to the national peak body. This provides NT enterprises with access to national conversations, markets, and opportunities they might otherwise miss due to geographic isolation. We specifically advocate for NT’s distinct voice in national social enterprise dialogue.
I’m a small business in a remote NT community — is membership affordable for me?
Yes! Our membership fees are scaled based on annual turnover, with our lowest tier ($150) designed to be accessible for small and early-stage enterprises. For alumni of our programs, we occasionally offer special promotions including free first-year membership. We're committed to making the community accessible to all NT social enterprises regardless of size or location.
What funding and grant opportunities are specifically available to NT members?
Members receive curated monthly newsletters with grants and opportunities specifically relevant to NT social enterprises. We also facilitate connections with funders who understand the Territory context through online learning sessions and exclusive events. Members have access to TrustLaw and Grant Station resources to further support their funding journeys.
How does verification work for remote NT businesses that may have limited internet connectivity?
We understand connectivity challenges in remote NT areas and offer flexible verification support including phone assistance, offline documentation options, and extended timeframes when needed. Our team can work with you to ensure the verification process accommodates your specific circumstances while maintaining the integrity of the standards.
